It’s no secret that my favourite, most loved, used and recommended styling products are from TréLuxe! They’ve been my go-to styling combo since early 2019. I’ve yet to find anything else that consistently gives me better results. You can read my full TréLuxe review here. But here are my top Tréluxe tips and techniques on how to get the best results from these amazing curly girl friendly products. I’ll also be sharing where you can get TréLuxe if you’re outside the USA, including discount codes!

Why I Love TréLuxe
At the time of writing this post on my Tréluxe Application Tips & Techniques, TréLuxe has curated a line of five, curly girl friendly products. Formulated with natural ingredients and active botanical blends. They don’t contain any sulfates, silicones, parabens, waxes, harsh chemicals or drying alcohols. They’re also gluten-free and cruelty-free. If I could use one word to sum up their line, it would be “weightless.” So perfect if you’ve got fine hair that get’s easily weighed down, or easily over-moisturized.
TréLuxe packaging is easy to use and instantly recognizable. I love the simplicity, it’s not a complicated line: cleanse, condition and style. All formulated with a good balance of protein and moisture. Protein is what gives the hair the strength to not only define a wave and a curl, but to hold it there. TréLuxe products are hydrating without being heavy, contain protein without drying out the hair, and give amazing shine. TréLuxe styling products give the best definition, juicy clumps, frizz-free curls and ringlets. Consistently, wash day after wash day!

TréLuxe Application Tips & Techniques
Curl Renew & Restore – cleanse from the roots down, and cleanse all of your hair. Apply to soaking wet hair, massage into the scalp, then pull down the lengths of your hair and rinse out fully. It’s the most light-weight cleanser I’ve found!
Untie the Knot – apply from the ends upwards, onto soaking wet hair, until you’re about an inch away from your roots. Then use a cushioned paddle brush to gently detangle your hair. Squish to condish for a couple of minutes. Don’t rinse out fully. Just rinse the roots and let the residual water run through the ends until a milky colour and consistency comes out the ends. That way you’re leaving enough in your hair to keep it hydrated and moisturized until your next wash day. And prepping your hair for styling products.
Reflex Serum – squeeze out the excess, dripping wet water out of the hair using your hands. Don’t use a towel or t-shirt, as you’ll end up removing too much water. Then use the same application technique as the conditioner, apply from the ends upwards, until you’re about an inch away from your roots. Use a cushioned paddle brush to distribute the product evenly throughout your hair, detangle and define. Then gently scrunch to enhance the curl pattern.
Hi! Definition Gel – apply as a one and done styler, or after the Reflex Serum. Same application technique as above, then brush through again to distribute, detangle and define. Then scrunch, scrunch, scrunch! If you have any halo frizz, or flyaways then smooth a little gel over the top of your hair, and on the front pieces of your hair around your face.

For Fine, Loose Waves & Curls
If you’ve got fine hair, loose waves or curls that get easily weighed down. In general for this hair type, you need a light weight, low lathering cleanser – the Curl Renew & Restore is great! And a light to medium weight conditioner with a good kick of protein to keep those loose waves and curls defined. And prevent them from loosening and dropping out.
Untie the Knot is one of the few leave in conditioners that I can use as a regular conditioner. If you’ve got wet frizz, which is a sign of a lack of protein in the hair, this is a great conditioner and light weight enough to use as a leave in too! For mini reviews of each of these products, you can check out this post I wrote last year.
Then for a styling product, keep it light-medium weight with my beloved Reflex Curl Styling Serum, aka – ringlets in a bottle! This is a glycerin-free curl enhancing, defining serum with medium hold. It’s really lightweight, so perfect for waves, curls and fine hair. Great as a one and done styler – especially on vacation, but works just as well with other products too!
For Juicy Curls, Definition & Hold
If you’re looking for weightless moisture and hydration, juicy definition, shine and hold – then use the Curl Renew & Restore, Untie the Knot Leave In Conditioner, and Reflex Curl Styling Serum. Then follow up with my favourite gel of all time: Hi! Definition Curl Enhancer Styling Gel!
Where the Reflex Serum defines the curls, the Hi! Definition Gel holds them. It also gives amazing shine, creates those big, thick, juicy curl clumps I’ve become known for. And it’s from using this styling combo from TréLuxe! Also glycerin-free, this gel is perfect for providing long lasting, frizz-free curl definition, shine and hold.
Top Tip: If you use too much Hi! Definition Gel, you’ll get white flakes on the hair. If you don’t use enough, you won’t get enough hold. So start with the amount you think you should use for your hair. If you don’t get the hold you want, increase the amount. Keep increasing until you get those white flakes! Then reduce the amount just a little so you get the hold you want, but without the white flakes. Those white flakes are a great way to determine how much gel you need for your hair.

Want more volume?
One of the things I really love about the TréLuxe Reflex Styling Serum and Hi! Definition Gel, is that they play so well with other products. If you have really fine hair, low density, it’s gets easily weighed down or you’re just looking for more volume. Do the same rinsing technique with the conditioner, but apply a foam to your hair first – using the same application technique as above. A foam is super lightweight and will give you more body, texture and volume. Then layer the Reflex Styling Serum on top for light-medium hold. For stronger hold, either use the Hi! Definition Gel instead, or layer it on top of the Reflex Styling Serum. So Foam > Serum > Gel.
Want even more definition?
If you love the thick juicy curls and clumps from the Reflex Styling Serum and/or the Hi! Definition Gel, but want even more definition. Using all the same tips as above, but instead of a foam which gives you more volume. Add a mousse into the styling line up instead, as it enhances and defines the curl even more! The order you apply the products in depends on what you prefer, so play around with it and see what works best for your hair. But if I want the ultimate, perfectly defined, frizz-free curls, ringlets and thick juicy curl clumps, I’ll do the same rinsing technique as above. Then Mousse > Serum > Gel. Or Serum > Gel > Mousse works great too!
