If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you’ll know that I’m always honest about what works + what doesn’t for my fine, curly hair. And as overnight repair treatments have become more popular, I’ve been waiting to see what Innersense Organic Beauty would do in this space. So here’s 4 ways to use their NEW Overnight Repair Serum.

I’m especially cautious when it comes to overnight “repair” products, which has been a growing trend in hair care recently. Years ago I left a repair mask in my hair overnight. It was formulated with heavy oils, butters and emollients that left my hair not just feeling weighed down + lifeless the next morning, but took months to recover from hygral fatigue! Which started my whole journey on the protein moisture balance, the importance of clarifying with chelating shampoos and my modified rice water treatment. So me and overnight repair treatments have history!

4 Ways to Use the Innersense Overnight Repair Serum
The NEW Overnight Repair Serum from Innersense Organic Beauty is completely different. I think that’s because it’s a super lightweight, silicone-free serum (unlike many others on the market). It’s a clinically proven overnight bonding serum that repairs hair from within. Rebuilding bonds, sealing the cuticle and locking in moisture for stronger, smoother, shinier hair. Powered by naturally derived bond building technology, with no pillow transfer and no rinse required. And without the heaviness – perfect for those of us with fine hair and looser curl patterns that get easily weighed down.
Who This Is For + Who It Isn’t…
If your hair is healthy and doesn’t have any heat, chemical or colour damage. Or if it feels too soft or is already over-moisturized, this product isn’t for you. The Overnight Repair Serum locks in moisture, so it works best for hair that’s dry and has been damaged, but isn’t experiencing moisture overload. But if you’re trying to restore strength from things like heat, chemical and colour damage – then this could be just the product your hair needs!

The Innersense Overnight Repair Serum is particularly brilliant for dry, damaged or high porosity hair. The bond building + cuticle sealing properties strengthen the cortex while sealing the cuticle. So your hair can actually hold onto the moisture + hydration it needs, especially if you’ve got dry, coarse, wavy or curly hair. Here are four ways you can use the new Overnight Repair Serum from Innersense Organic Beauty.
1. Use it instead of a Leave in Conditioner
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know I like to break the rules when it comes to how brands tell me to use their products. So I know it’s called an “Overnight” Repair Serum, but as soon as I felt the smooth, lightweight texture my first instinct was to use it instead of leave in conditioner in my styling routine. I rinse out my conditioner fully, squeeze out the excess water, then apply about 8 pumps. Starting at the ends and gradually working my way upwards to the mid lengths of my hair.

2. Incorporate it into your Nightly Haircare Routine
One of the best things you can do to preserve your curl pattern and prevent frizz between washdays is protect it at night. It’s one of the things I’m known for and the biggest reason why I don’t need to refresh my curls. Before I put my hair up in a pineapple (using a silk scrunchie or PuffCuff). I take 4-6 pumps and gently smooth it down my mid lengths and ends using praying hands. Then gently scrunch.
Top Tip: I love applying this to my hair before I get in the sauna to help counteract the effect of the heat, which gently opens up the cuticles of the hair.
It delivers deep repair, smoothness and reduces frizz without the use of silicones, PEGs etc that are typically used in overnight products. HOWEVER… and this is a big BUT! If you’re using a sealing oil in your styling routine (something like I Create Shine for example), layering this serum on dry hair won’t work as effectively. The sealing oil will do exactly what it’s meant to: seal. Which will prevent this Overnight Repair Serum from doing what it’s supposed to do: penetrate + repair.

I’m not a huge advocate of using oils on hair, especially sealing oils on dry hair. You’re locking hydration out instead of sealing moisture in. So if you’ve got damaged hair and you’re lashing oil on your hair and wondering why your hair is still dry, with lots of split ends – use the Overnight Repair Serum instead. Just remember to clarify your hair with a chelating shampoo to remove all that oil buildup first. Read this article for more info on that + product recommendations.
3. Apply before Heat Styling
The Overnight Repair Serum is fantastic as a base layer applied to wet hair, before applying a heat protectant like Serenity Smoothing Cream or Air Dry Styling Cream which both protect the hair up to 450F or 232C. This is literally what bond builders are formulated to do: repair heat damaged hair! This one repairs bonds and promotes longevity by helping prevent future damage through dual action repair at the cuticle + cortex.

I apply about 8 pumps to clean, wet (but not soaking, dripping wet) hair. Then wait until my hair is damp before applying a heat protectant. It’s not a “get out of heat damage jail free card” and it’s not a heat protectant. But there’s a noticeable difference in the strength + the health of my hair when I use this combo. My hair feels smoother, my ends feel softer (not crispy) and my curls bounce back faster.

4. Try this combo for Seriously Damaged Hair
And finally, if you’re just starting out your healthy hair journey and dealing with a lot of damage. Whether that’s from excessive heat styling, keratin treatments, highlights, bleach or other colour treatments. Then this combo (which is colour safe + suitable for colour treated hair) is going to be a game changer for your hair! Use the Innersense Repair Mask as a rinse-out treatment every two weeks. Then use the Overnight Repair Serum consistently in between.

This combo targets damage at two different levels: the Repair Mask goes deep to restore + strengthen. And the clinically proven, dual action formula of the Overnight Repair Serum rebuilds bonds, seals the cuticle and locks in moisture while you sleep. Want some proof?
