I’m so excited to announce that I’m starting a podcast, called Undefined by… I’ve had the concept and idea for a few years. So after a lot of planning and months of recording, I can finally share what I’ve been working on. I’ll be honest, I’m a little nervous that some of you will be disappointed that I’m not launching a product line. Because I get questions about that all the time. I know it’s an expectation so many people have and it seems like such an obvious and natural next step for Curl Maven. But that’s for another article, on another day.
Step 1: Set up a Media Company
I’ve set up a media company called Curl Maven Media. Because starting a podcast is just the first thing on my list of what I want to do and achieve. There’s some other exciting projects in the pipeline too. And now you know it’s not products, you may be able to guess. Because it’s something else I get asked about a lot and encouraged to do. But they’re big projects, that will take some time. Now that I’ve launched my podcast, the next thing on my list of things to do is redesign, reformat + record my Masterclasses. Because that’s another thing I’m asked about weekly. So that’s next, launching in September 2024.
I really want to keep this article short and sweet. Mostly because why read about it when you can just listen ay?! I’ll give you a brief introduction here, and then my first episode is will be just me. Sharing my idea, concept and purpose behind why I’m starting a podcast and what I’m hoping to achieve. I’ve never planned anything so far in advance and in so much detail and secrecy before. I feel like everything I’ve done with Curl Maven has always been very collaborative and responsive to the feedback and conversations we have together. Or that I see in real life or online. So this feels very different, a little scary and very vulnerable.
Step 2: Start a Podcast
As some of you may already know, I’m an award-winning content creator and one of the world’s leading hair experts specializing in wavy + curly hair. In just 5 years, I went from being a homeless single mum with two kids, to building a six-figure business in the hair industry. My journey has taught me that we’re so much more than stereotypes and circumstances. You’ve heard me say so many times before, “what starts off being about the hair, always ends up being about so much more.” This podcast, is that “more”.
This isn’t a solo podcast (apart from the first introductory episode). I’ll be joined by a different guest every week, featured in two episodes each week. The main episode called Undefined by every Monday and a shorter bonus episode every Thursday, called Untamed. I’ll go more into why I chose the names in the first solo episode and the trailer, which is out now. Undefined by is a podcast that uncovers the stories behind successful people from various backgrounds and cultures. To find out what makes each guest so much more than what they’re known for or associated with. Discover what they’re undefined by and how that’s played a part in their journey to success.
I’m coming at these conversations with guests in the style + approach of finding out, “Here’s what I do, here’s what I’ve achieved. These are obstacles + barriers I’ve had to overcome; the things people have tried to define me by. And here’s how I’ve refused to let these circumstances define me, impact my opportunities in life or stand in the way of my happiness + success.”
My goal, hope and intention is that these authentic conversations and relatable stories will inspire and empower you to break the barriers standing in the way of your happiness. That if you’re feeling frustrated, restricted or defined by things that are holding you back and seem outside of your control. You’ll find the motivation and inspiration you need to pave your own path to success. However you choose to define it.
