Flora & Curl Review
Flora & Curl are a Black-Owned, British brand. Made using plant-powered, botanical hair care products to nourish, hydrate, soothe and protect all curl types. Free from harsh chemicals, synthetic fragrance, sulfates, silicones, parabens and mineral oils. They are vegan, organic and curly girl friendly. I’ve been using – and loving – Flora & Curl products for years! So I was excited when they became available on LOOKFANTASTIC and I was able to offer an exclusive 20% discount code using code CURLMAVEN at checkout.

Flora & Curl products are formulated with botanic ingredients directly derived from flowers, herbs, nuts, seeds, roots, leaves, barks and berries from around the world. Made using cold-pressed and raw ingredients, they’re pretty concentrated, so a little goes a long way.
They have a range of accessories, and four lines: African Citrus Bloom, Rose Water & Honey, Sweet Hibiscus . And more recently, the Coconut Mint Refresh line. In this Flora & Curl Review, I’ll talk about my favourite products from each line, a couple of hero products. And what hair type they’re suitable for.

Flora & Curl Rose Water & Honey Line
The Flora & Curl Rose Water & Honey line are washday products that are perfect if you have fine hair, that gets easily weighed down and needs light weight hydration. It has a subtle floral scent that doesn’t linger. The Rose Water & Honey Cream Shampoo is surprisingly creamy and doesn’t dry out the hair. The Rose Water & Honey Cream Conditioner is hydrating yet light weight, with great slip for detangling. But my favourite is the Rose Water & Honey Leave In Detangler.
The Rose Water & Honey line is protein-free, so you may need to include a protein treatment such as the Joico Deep Penetrating Reconstructor or Liquid Reconstructor into your routine. You can also get 20% off Joico at LOOKFANTASTIC using code CURLMAVEN. Read this post for more information, how to use them, and who they are suitable for.

Hero Product! Leave In Detangler
I’ve been using the Flora & Curl Leave In Detangler for years, it’s a constant contender for my favourite leave in conditioner. It’s light weight, smells amazing, and is particularly good at detangling. This has long been my favourite leave in conditioner to use on my daughter’s hair. Especially in the mornings when I’m doing her hair for school. Damp or wet hair + this Leave In Detangler + this Denman Paddle Brush = quick, easy and effortless brushing, detangling and styling. You can also get 20% off Denman at LOOKFANTASTIC using code CURLMAVEN.
Flora & Curl Sweet Hibiscus Line
The Sweet Hibiscus line consists of four styling products. Three of my favourites are the Curl Activating Lotion, the Curl Defining Gel and what’s shaping up to be my next Product of the Year, the Curl Volumizing Foam. All perfectly suited to fine hair that gets easily weighed down. They all contain protein, which helps to not only enhance and define the curl, but also to hold it and ensure the curl definition lasts!
The Curl Activating Lotion is great for the winter time when hair tends to get a little drier. Although both are incredibly light weight. I would only combine this styling product with the Leave In Detangler if you have extremely dry, damaged or brittle hair. If not, use either one or the other.

Hero Product! Curl Volumizing Foam
The Curl Volumizing Foam and Curl Defining Gel are the styling combo I’ve been using in recent months that has truly blown me away! I get pretty much identical results as I do with my beloved TréLuxe styling combo, featuring their Reflex Serum and Hi! Definition Gel – but just more light weight! So if you tried the TréLuxe combo and found it too heavy, you’ll love this Flora & Curl styling duo.
The Flora & Curl Curl Volumizing Foam is the most hydrating and defining foam I’ve found and is my number one favourite styling foam, of all time!
I also find that I don’t need as much of this foam as I do with other brands I’ve tried. So it lasts much longer. It’s great for volume, body, texture, movement like any foam. But what makes the Flora & Curl Curl Volumizing Foam stand out from other similar products, is that it also gives definition, ringlets, curls and clumps!

Curl Defining Gel
The Curl Defining Gel is super light weight. Even more light weight than the Bouclème Curl Defining Gel – which you can also get 20% off at LOOKFANTASTIC using code CURLMAVEN! It gives incredible shine, with a light weight hold – which may not be enough for some people. I found I had to use quite a lot of this gel to get the hold that I wanted, but it did last. It contains Pectin, Xanthan Gum and Marshmallow Root Extract. All of which usually cause flash drying on my hair. But whatever way it’s formulated, that doesn’t happen with this gel. This gel is also really great for refreshing due to the light weight, watery consistency.

Over-Moisturized Hair…
I believe it’s the Curl Defining Gel which caused my hair to become over-moisturized recently. And here’s why. Despite being so light weight and containing protein, this is a very hydrating gel. And I needed to a lot of it. When I’m testing out a product line, I use it exclusively and consistently for a month. Then I switch back to my base products for a few weeks, and then try the new line again. To confirm the results and any changes I may have noticed.
Now, I’m not saying this isn’t a good gel. It is – if you have the right hair type: dry, damaged or brittle hair. Fine wavy or curly hair that gets easily weighed down. Or fine hair in need of light weight hydration and lots of shine. Otherwise, you will need to incorporate weekly protein treatments, such as the Joico Deep Penetrating Reconstructor. Or use the Joico Liquid Reconstructor every washday.
If your hair doesn’t sound like any of the above – then this gel may not be the best one for you. But if you’ve tried the Bouclème Curl Defining Gel and found it too heavy, or the Aveda Confixor Liquid Gel and found it too drying. Then the Flora & Curl Curl Defining Gel will most likely be great for you! You can get 20% off all the products mentioned above at LOOKFANTASTIC using code CURLMAVEN.

Coconut Mint Refresh Line
Finally, a scalp line that isn’t heavily scented with peppermint, tea tree or eucalyptus! The Flora & Curl Coconut Mint Refresh line contains all of those ingredients, which are known to be hugely beneficial, calming and soothing on the scalp. But it has a very subtle lavender scent, that doesn’t linger. Formulated to promote hair growth, relieve itchy, flaky or dry scalp and remove product build-up.
Hydrating but not heavy, this line is a joy to use! So light weight, refreshing, soothing and gentle. They also have a pre-poo oil, a scalp refresh mist and the re-packaged Curl Refresh Clay Wash. However, don’t use this too often as it will dry out the hair and scalp. Use it the same way you would a clarifying shampoo, no more than once/month. And make sure to do a really good deep condition afterwards. However, the Clay Wash doesn’t replace a chelating, clarifying shampoo. Read more about that here.

African Citrus Bloom Line
I’m not the biggest fan of the Flora & Curl African Citrus line to be honest. I find the Superfruit Shampoo way too harsh and drying on my hair. It’s a clarifying shampoo, but it’s not chelating and it also contains protein.
The Superfruit Hair Oil is a concentrated blend of African Saharan plant oils of Jojoba, Kalahari, Crambe and Baobab, prized for their antioxidant richness and UV-protective properties. And as such, they recommend it for sea, sun and water protection. I prefer to add a few drops into my Modified Rice Water Treatment, as the smell is INCREDIBLE, along with all the other benefits.
The Jasmine Oasis Hydrating Hair Mist has the same scent, but I find it a little sticky. So it works best to apply a few sprays to damp or wet hair when styling or refreshing. But to be honest, I rarely use these two products. And when I do, it’s very sparingly, and more for the scent than anything else. However, I know other people who love them! So it’s down to personal preference.

What hair type would suit these products?
Flora & Curl products are some of the best products available at this price range! The quality of the formulas and ingredients used are amazing. The Flora & Curl Rose Water & Honey line is perfect if you have fine wavy or curly hair that gets easily weighed down, or it’s a little dry and needs some lightweight hydration.
Also kids, I mentioned the Flora & Curl Rose Water & Honey line in my blog post on How to take care of your kids curly hair. Because it’s so light weight, hydrating and affordable and particularly good at detangling! The scent isn’t too strong and the packaging is bright and beautiful.
The Coconut Mint Refresh line is perfect if you have fine hair, straight, wavy or curly! And you have scalp issues or have found other products too heavy, too drying or too heavily scented.

The Sweet Hibiscus duo of styling products I mentioned are perfect if you have fine wavy or curly hair that gets easily weighed down. If you want volume, definition, big thick juicy curl clumps with hold and shine. This is the styling combo for you!
I hope you enjoyed this Flora & Curl review and found it helpful. You can get 20% off Flora & Curl, and many of the other products mentioned in this post using code CURLMAVEN at LOOKFANTASTIC, who offer FREE worldwide shipping.
