Back again with another Curl Maven Gift Guide for 2022, my third gift guide! They’re proving to be really popular each year, so I couldn’t wait to write another one.
The way I like to shop, for myself, my home, friends and family is to buy pieces that are good quality and timeless, not trend-based. And I think now more ever, for lots of reasons, is a great time to shop in a more mindful and considered way.
Curl Maven Gift Guide 2022
This year’s Curl Maven Gift Guide 2022 features some more of my favourite hair care, skincare, body care, beauty, fashion, home and wellness products that would make a really nice gift for a friend, family member or loved one this Christmas and holiday season. Or any time of the year to be honest!
However, before we get started on the 2022 Gift Guide, I’d highly recommend you check out the 2021 Gift Guide and the 2020 Gift Guide. Because almost all the products featured in those gift guides are still available this year, and they’re all amazing products and gifts.
As always, I’ve included some beautiful products from some local, Irish companies again. As well as other brands, products and gift ideas from or available around the world, just like my readers, followers and audience are.
The intention behind this gift guide is to share some of my favourite gifts, support some amazing small businesses. As well as help you plan ahead, and hopefully find some really nice thoughtful gifts for yourself, your home, friends, family and loved ones.
If you’ve been reading this blog for a while, or any of my previous gift guides, you’ll know I’m a huge fan of Silke London Hair Turbans. I wear one every night to protect my hair from frizz, dryness, damage and breakage.
I recently picked up their Silk Heatless Curler Set, and it’s perfect! This is a trend that started years ago in the curl community. Originally using long socks tied at a knot on the top of your head, then a dressing gown belt secured with a hair clip.
But now we’ve got a beautiful, sophisticated silk set comprising of a silk-wrapped, soft barrel to wrap your hair around. A gorgeous clip, to secure it at the top which you can use in other hair styles. And then two silk scrunchies to secure the hair at the ends, and of course use again.
I think this works best on mid-long hair that hasn’t got too much kink, pattern or texture. But it’s a really effortless, easy and most importantly heatless way of styling your hair.
The Silke London Heatless Curler works on straight, wavy and curly hair to give those beautiful beachy, mermaid waves and soft, bouncy, barrel curls.
I picked mine up at Look Fantastic, with 20% off using my code CURLMAVEN. But if they’re not in stock, you can get them at the Silke London Website here.
Next on the 2022 gift guide, the PRO Facial Steamer by My Skincare.ie, which is amazing! I’ve known about the benefits of steam to the skin, hair and lungs for years. And so a few months ago, I finally picked this one up.
Apart from all the benefits of the steam itself, I think just taking the time to sit down, be still and all you have to do is close your eyes and breath is so good for our busy, stressed-out lives.
I’ve been using it to hydrate, plump and firm my skin. Adding a few drops of Eucalyptus essential oil to open up and clear a my chest too. And you can also turn your back on it and use the power of steam on your wavy, curly and coily hair.
Use the steam to open up the cuticle of the hair, to refresh your hair between washdays if it’s feeling a little dry or looking a little frizzy. Or use it to deep condition.
Simply apply your conditioner, deep conditioner or hair mask, and let the steam open up the cuticles of the hair, allowing the product penetrate the hair shaft, nourishing and conditioning your hair from the inside out.
Out of everything in my Gift Guide 2022, I think the ESPA Skin Stimulating Body Brush is my favourite! There are so many benefits to dry brushing your body, for your lymphatic system, blood circulation, digestion, to awaken the body and mind, exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin.
I’ve tried quite a few over the years, but none of them have been as effective or good quality as the ESPA Skin Stimulating Body Brush. It’s already pretty affordable, and you can get 20% off using code CURLMAVEN at Look Fantastic.
For a luxurious gift that feels so much more than just body care, but a great wellness gift too. Check out the ESPA Modern Alchemy Collection, it’s currently 45% off at Look Fantastic making it £31.50 instead of £57!
It comes in a luxurious gift box, perfect for gifting. Inside are three high quality, beautiful black glass jars. Containing an aromatic blend of soothing salt crystals to add to your bath, a creamy exfoliating body polish, and a rich, nourishing oil body-balm. I keep the jars for travelling!
Top Tip: you could purchase the ESPA Modern Alchemy Collection and split it into three really nice gifts – and super affordable at just over £10 each/per person.
I really haven’t been blown away by much makeup or beauty products this year. But, NARS launched their Light Reflecting Foundation and I’ve worn it almost every day, ever since!
It’s the perfect buildable coverage, natural-looking, radiant, youthful foundation and it really does reflect the light in the most beautiful way. And it lasts all day!
I wear the shade Punjab, and you can get 20% off NARS at Look Fantastic using code CURLMAVEN.
Another product I’ve worn daily since I first picked up a tube, is the Hourglass Phantom Volumizing Glossy Balm in the shade Slip. It’s a beautiful texture and consistency, that slides onto the lips but isn’t sticky.
It stays put, doesn’t bleed and lasts hours, while keeping my lips soft, juicy and hydrated. Available and in stock at Brown Thomas here.
It’s not Sweater Weather, it’s Sézane Season! An iconic French brand of thoughtful, considered, sustainable and high-quality clothing and accessories. Both timeless and incredibly chic.
What started off as a Sézane knitwear obsession, has now led to owning a variety of their quality pieces.
To be honest, anything from this brand would be a lovely gift! But I’m going to recommend either the Farrow Bag. The original leather version is very stiff.
So I got the basket version, which goes with everything and I wear it throughout the year. It’s available in lots of different colours and materials.
Or one of their newer dresses which I fell in love the moment I saw it online and have loved it even more every time I’ve worn it is the Estel Dress – still in stock in all sizes.
It’s one of those dresses that’s got some subtle colour and pattern, a beautiful cut and length. But you could also wear throughout the different seasons.
Sézane Sizing Tip: I’ve found you need to size up for the coats and jackets, size down for the looser, finer knitwear and go for your normal size for dresses, tops and chunky knitwear.
I understand footwear doesn’t usually make it into gift guides, but you simply cannot go wrong with a pair of Dune Boots! I’ve got a few pairs now. They’re so well made, last for years and wear really well. All mine still look perfect!
Each year I get a new style, and although I usually go for a rounded toe. I’ve really been enjoying following Natalie Borton on Instagram, and saw her wearing a western-style, block heel, pointy toe, ankle boot.
So I did some research to find something similar, and more affordable. And of course Dune London had exactly what I was looking for, and it happens to be one of their best-sellers, the Prea Boot.
It comes in a few different colours/materials, I bought the black leather version. I didn’t know how slimming and elongating a pointed toe boot could be, until the moment I tried them on!
I’ve got quite wide, flat feet so have always found those styles uncomfortable, but not these! I absolutely love and adore them and know I’ll get so many wears out of them.
I’d like to say it’s a sign of the times we’re in, but I’ve always owned, loved and used a hot water bottle. This year, I was looking for a new one and every single article I looked up said The White Company Super Soft Faux Fur Hot Water Bottle was the best, and they weren’t lying!
Thank goodness they ship worldwide, because this would make such a lovely gift this winter. It’s another of my favourites in this gift guide 2022. And let me tell you, it’s so incredibly soft, cosy warm, comforting and cuddly!
It’s like having the cuddliest, warmest, softest cat on your lap. Minus the purring, scratching, fur ball-wretching, and constantly trying to get away from you… I’m more of a dog person, can you tell?!
Top Tip: The White Company Super Soft Faux Fur Hot Water Bottle retail for £35 or €46. However, I picked mine up for €16 in Kildare Village, in The White Company Outlet Shop. Or check out Bicester Village in the UK.
If you’re in Ireland, Paul Costello has an almost identical one in Dunnes Stores, which is a little more affordable than the full price White Company one.
I couldn’t let my Gift Guide 2022 go by without mentioning candles. Because who doesn’t love a candle, especially during the holidays?!
A soothing scent of warm orange clove and myrrh, it’s like a Christmas cuddle. It’s the most gorgeous, sophisticated scent!
Seeing as my 11 year old daughter blissfully burned through my (very expensive!) Le Labo Santal 26 Candle whilst indulging in a candle-lit bath!
With severe burn-out and mental health struggles throughout 2022, I’ve really had to dig deep into my wellness habits, practices and rituals this year.
Two things have absolutely changed my life, energy levels, mental health and wellness. And that’s mushroom powders!
Chaga, which I take in my morning coffee as soon as I get up. Helps to fortify your immune system, gives you a natural energy boost (without the crash), whilst helping to promote healthy skin.
Then mid-morning or early afternoon, I take Lion’s Mane in my coffee for focus, memory, anxiety, depression and digestion. They both contain potent anti-oxidents, anti-inflammatories and are incredible immune-boosters.
I’ve tried a few different brands, but found Anti-Oxi the most affordable and high quality. And you can get 10% off using code CURLMAVEN. They’re based in the UK and have just opened up their EU warehouse in Ireland.
These mushrooms have been truly life-changing, I’ll be writing more about them in an upcoming post. But please do your own research on these amazing natural remedies and medicines!
Next on the Curl Maven Gift Guide 2022 is a journal. But more of a wellness, success and productivity journal. The 6 Minute Success Journal is such a little powerhouse! It’s so much more than a book, or a journal.
I’ve tried various journals, planners and diaries before, but never anything like this one. Admittedly it was the colour that first attracted me. Its MY colour; that warm, terracotta-blush. But I’ve noticed a huge difference just reading it, never mind actually using it!
Cards & Books
The Head Plan is another brand that’s featured in previous gift guides. But this year, I’m including their newly launched Journal Prompt Cards. 52 journal prompts designed by a qualified life & wellness coach.
Each card details a thought-provoking journal prompt to help you dive deeper and explore areas of your life that you may never have looked at before or even thought about.
Taking you on a year long project and deep transformational journey of self-discovery and empowerment. It’s literally the gift that keeps on giving!
And finally, a book. I read The Path of Femininity during the summer, and I still think about it often. It’s such a powerful book about the rising of the Divine Feminine.
With practical exercises and spiritual teachings on how to replace force with flow, hustle with ease, control with surrender, fear with success.
If you’re into manifesting, then definitely check out this book. Especially if you’re manifesting a partner or relationship.
It speaks to the balance of feminine and masculine in manifesting that no other book, speaker or event does. And I’ve read lots of books and attended events on manifestation!
So there you go, another Curl Maven Gift Guide. I hope you found some amazing new brands or products you’d like to try for yourself or gift to someone else this holiday season.
I’d absolutely love to hear what you picked up this year in the comments! Let me know what topic you’d like to see me cover next on Curl Maven. Gabriella xoxo
